Portuguese
Ahh Port. Deeply rich and expressive, Port evokes images of cigar filled dark wood paneled men’s clubs. But it is, in fact, much more mainstream than that.
Classically paired with chocolate and yes, cigars, they are just as comfortable alongside a perfectly roasted chicken or a great hunk of English Stilton.
Tawny, Ruby and White
These Ports are aged in oak casks and usually bottled after 3 years to produce wines of fine balance and flavor.
The sweet and dry white Ports are produced exclusively from white grapes. The sweet is delicious as a dessert wine, the dry slightly chilled as an aperitif.
Late Bottled Vintage
The Late Bottled Vintage, red in color, come from the same vineyards as Vintage Ports.
However, as they are bottled 4 to 6 years after harvesting, they mature more quickly and are ready to drink sooner.
Aged Tawny Ports
These Ports are produced with grapes from different harvests, matured in oak casks for many years, where they lose the full deep red color of their youth and take on their classic amber color.
When drunk slightly chilled they are specially delicious.
Vintage Ports
Vintage is a Port Wine from an exceptional harvest, characterized by its fine bouquet and deep red color. Vintage Port ages for 2 years in wood before being bottled.
The top of the heap, Vintage Ports should continue their maturation for several years to develop their unique character, only attaining their full bouquet 10 years after harvesting.
