A completely different aromatic profile is presented as here the nose is much more earth dominated with a mix of red, black and violet notes that sit atop rich, full and notably serious medium full flavors that offer excellent volume and here too a bit of wood surfaces on the youthfully austere finish. This too is very densely fruited with the same intense floral notes but here the fruit is darker with blue and black berry aromas that continue onto the palate saturating and hugely concentrated flavors that exude power and punch yet there is real depth as well, all wrapped in a very firmly but not aggressively structured finish that leaves no doubt that this will last for 50 years or longer. There is virtually no reduction here and the soaring nose offers notes of violets, earth, red and black pinot fruit and a distinct animale component that introduces big, robust and intense flavors that are textured, indeed even chewy but the tannic spine is well integrated on the hugely long finish.
