One of the stars of the vintage, this elegant, smoky wine has hints of barbecue pit intermixed with sweet black currants and cherries. Dark purple and medium to full-bodied, its impressive finesse and wonderful purity make for a surprisingly forward style of Smith-Haut-Lafitte. 92pts Wine Advocate (2008)FRANCE: BORDEAUX - RED - PESSAC-LEOGNAN

Very grapey, with black licorice and mineral character. Full-bodied, with hints of new wood and spices. Big and velvety. This is balanced and very silky, with harmonious yet chewy tannins. A wonderful young wine. 95pts Wine Advocate (2005)Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Leognan

Size750MLVintage2010SKU17126
A silky, rather classic Pessac-Leognan with notes of scorched earth, tobacco leaf and black and red currants, but no hard edges. Fragrant, complex aromatics are followed by a savory, expansively flavored wine made from a final blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. An opulent, precocious style of wine. 95pts Wine Advocate (2010)FRANCE: BORDEAUX - RED - PESSAC-LEOGNAN

A small garagiste operation producing between 500-600 cases, Branon is owned by Helene Garcin. The gorgeous 2005 exhibits a classic Graves nose of graphite, charcoal, chocolate, scorched earth, blackberries, cassis, and hints of creosote and earth... 96pts Wine Advocate (2005)Chateau Pape Clement Rouge Pessac-Leognan
FRANCE: BORDEAUX - RED - PESSAC-LEOGNAN
Size750MLVintage2009SKU13101
Although the 2009 Pape Clement may not be as sublime as the 2005 or 2000, but it is very close to those two efforts, and it will be fascinating to compare them (as well as the 2008 and 2010) over the following three decades. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc with a modest 13.5% alcohol, the 2009 reveals considerable structure and tannin along with tell-tale notes of burning embers, scorched earth, graphite, blueberries, blackberries and toasty vanillin, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. 95 Pts. Probably the greatest Pape-Clement ever made, the dense purple-colored 2005 exhibits sumptuous notes of smoky scorched earth, graphite, melted licorice, and blackberries. Once past the exquisite perfume, the wine reveals full body, extraordinary concentration, plenty of chocolate, smoke, cassis, and blackberry flavors. 98 points Robert ParkerChateau Haut Brion Pessac Leognon

This utterly profound, exceptionally rich, full bodied, thick La Mission is undeniably one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage. It possesses sweet blue and black fruit notes intertwined with notions of burning embers and flowers. Unctuous, massively fruity, and thick, this is a great La Mission! 95pts RP Wine Advocate (2006)Chateau Haut Brion Rouge Pessac-Leognan

What a blockbuster effort! Atypically powerful, one day, the 2009 Haut-Brion may be considered to be the 21st century version of the 1959. It is an extraordinarily complex, concentrated effort made from a blend of 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc with the highest alcohol ever achieved at this estate, 14.3%. Even richer than the perfect 1989, with similar technical numbers although slightly higher extract and alcohol, it offers up a sensational perfume of subtle burning embers, unsmoked cigar tobacco, charcoal, black raspberries, wet gravel, plums, figs and blueberries. There is so much going on in the aromatics that one almost hesitates to stop smelling it. However, when it hits the palate, it is hardly a letdown. 100 Pts. Wine Advocate
