This is a really pretty wine from stem to stern with an expansive and nose that combines red currants, minerals, and rose petal with plenty of earth that continues onto the fresh, sweet, dense and pure flavors.
This is also unusually pretty and very pinot yet with the expected undertones of Gevrey character that are also picked up by the elegant, precise and pure middle weight flavors that possess good energy and punch.Allen Meadows - Burghound
John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Place des Lois bottling is made up of a blend of lieux à dits that include Reniard and Billards, and it is excellent in 2006. The complex bouquet is deep, lovely and quite old viney in its blend of black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, grilled meats, fine minerality, fresh herbs and a touch of cedary wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, long and nicely structured, with ripe tannins, fine focus and mid-palate depth and a long, tangy and complex finish. A very classy AC. Allen Meadows -Burghound
A smoky and highly complex nose of underbrush, fresh and dense cassis, red berry and violet notes nuanced by subtle spice hints that can also be found on the serious and powerful full-bodied flavors that display old vine concentration and superb length. This is flat out stunning for this level and highly recommended. Outstanding! Top Value! Allen Meadows-Burghound
A stunning nose that offers excellent aromatic complexity with deeply pitched notes of earth and dark berry fruit that lead to rich flavors, more earth and a subtle sauvage quality on the textured, explosive finish. Highly recommended. Outstanding! Top Value! Allen Meadows-Burghound
This possesses the most complete nose to this point and is classic Gevrey in character with big-boned and firmly structured flavors that display the expected earthiness and animale but also with sweetness and precision on the energetic and highly complex finish. The old vine sap and intensity really shine through in a transparent vintage like '06 and this is impressive for its level. Outstanding!. Allen Meadows - Burghound
A slightly more complex nose features aromas of red and black fruit plus the same violet and floral notes that continue onto the spice, anise and pepper-infused middle weight flavors that are rich, full, fresh and textured with an attractive mouth feel and a supple yet linear finish. The tannins are firm but not aggressive and this is very Gevrey in character. An excellent villages.. Outstanding! Allan Meadows - Burghound
A subtle touch of wood spice highlights very fresh and if not bright, then expressive aromas of dark berry fruit, iron and underbrush notes along with ample amounts of Gevrey earth that can also be found on the intense, ripe and supple flavors that possess plenty of old vine extract on the dusty, intense and beautifully long finish. This is a high caliber villages and definitely worth considering. Allan Meadows - Burghound
This is definitely one for the cellar. Soon after its release, I logged these notes: spicy red and black plum, violet aromas on a muscular frame with full, rich fruit flavors and a well-textured finish. Closed up tightly now but will handsomely reward 5-10 years of cellaring.
There is no reduction here however as the very fresh, bright and exuberant nose features briar, red and blue fruit and iron-infused earth aromas that complement to perfection the round, rich and sweet flavors that are unusually well-detailed and finish with punch and power. This too is recommended. Outstanding! Top Value!
This is a really pretty wine from stem to stern with an expansive and broad-scaled nose that combines red currants, minerals, tobacco and rose petal with plenty of Gevrey earth that continues onto the fresh, sweet, dense and pure flavors that possess that beguiling quality of inner mouth perfume. The finish tightens up substantially as it's both structured and wonderfully persistent with a beautiful sense of underlying tension. Like the old vines Morey, this is a strikingly good villages and highly recommended. Outstanding! Top Value! Allen Meadows - Burghound
Moderate reduction knocks down the nose though the mineral-infused flavors are rich, refined, supple and forward with good vibrancy and punch though the acidity here is less prominent. This is fashioned in an understated style and it's interesting that despite the lower acidity, there is a fine sense of overall balance. Allen Meadows - Burghound
In contrast to the nose of the Bourgogne, here the nose is expressive and ripe with a pungently earthy aromatic profile that also features red berry fruits and underbrush that continue onto the mouth coating, ripe and in contrast to Dugat's comments, very pinot finish. I very much like this though if is as structured as he suggests and it may require the better part of a decade to arrive at its majority. Recommended. Outstanding! Allen Meadows-Burghound
Here the nose is on the awkward side as it displays both some unintegrated wood and moderate reduction though the medium-bodied and rather serious flavors retain a fine sense of freshness and vibrancy with excellent purity of expression and seemingly buckets of minerality on the textured and primary finish that is impressively persistent. I have every confidence this will come together. Sweet Spot Outstanding Allen Meadows-Burghound
An elegant, pure, lacy and ultra refined nose of dense red pinot fruit and subtle stone and spice notes dissolves into detailed, layered and beautifully nuanced middle weight flavors that possess perhaps the best transparency of the entire range and simply stunning length. Like the Poissenots, this is an exceptionally sophisticated effort that is refined and harmonious. Outstanding! Allan Meadows - Burghound
This is clearly the ripest wine among these '06s with an exceptionally pretty nose of fresh red pinot fruit nuanced by notes of game, warm earth and underbrush that is also picked up on the supple, sweet and detailed flavors that possess a really lovely mouth feel on the muscled and beautifully long finish. This is not robust but it knocks on the door while keeping all the individual structural components in perfect balance. Recommended.. Outstanding! Allen Meadows - Burghound
